FALL NATURE PAINTING
Fall is a beautiful time of year to go on walks and collect all sorts of treasures. Have your little ones gather objects from nature and then use them to paint with. There are so many options such as leaves, pine cones, pine needles, acorns, stones, chestnuts, tree bark and sticks. When we use unconventional objects, our painting turns into a more sensorial experience and children learn to think outside of the box.
For this activity, focus on the process rather than the end product. Children learn through play and open-ended activities and process art allows children to explore, create and have fun. The focus for this activity is the experience.
Use your "get outside" as well as your "create" token for this piece. If you do this activity with another family member or friend you can use your "share" token while you share the objects. If you want to give one of your prints to someone, maybe even your teacher, you can use your "show love" token. Hang your fall process art on the wall using a set of wooden rails from My Daughter Florence and admire your masterpiece!
MATERIALS
- Objects from nature
- Paint (we chose fall colors but you can use any color)
- Paper
- Container to put paint in - bowls, muffin tin, tupperware etc. Something larger works well so that you can dip the objects if desired.
- Spoon or brush to apply the paint to fall objects
- Newspaper, paper bag, drop cloth etc. to cover work surface
DIRECTIONS
- Gather fall objects from nature.
- Observe your objects and note the different shapes, textures and colors. You may even want to use a magnifying glass to look at them closely.
- Dip, spoon, or brush your fall objects with paint.
- Roll, brush, or "paint" your paper however you want, there's no right or wrong way to do this.
- Let your child decide if they want to use one object or a few, one paint color or many. Remember, this project is all about the process of exploration.
- Note the different textures and patterns each object created and admire your creation!
